Are You Dreading Planning Your First Corporate Headshot Photoshoot?
A Quick Guide to Help You Get Started

I mention this a lot — because it’s a fact: your corporate headshot is often the first impression you or your company makes, whether on your company’s website, LinkedIn profile, or marketing materials. It’s important to make the most of it — and a few early decisions can help make the very best of the process.
A new client called me this week in need of a shoot the next day. Unfortunately, we had no details to work with, which prompted me to write this blog in the hope that it may help others when they get the unenviable request: “Find a photographer!” So, if you’re new to this, I hope you find this advice helpful.
This Doesn't Need to Be Difficult!
Dealing with your first corporate headshot photoshoot doesn’t have to be overwhelming. How much will it cost? Is the photographer going to do a good job? What if people don’t turn up? I’ve worked with many large and small companies and design agencies across London to create professional, impactful headshots that reflect their business and brand style.
One word to put your mind at ease — collaboration. I always work in close collaboration with my clients and seek an ongoing relationship. So there’s no need to worry unnecessarily — we can work it all out together.
In the meantime, here’s how you can ensure your photoshoot goes smoothly and produces the results you need.
1. Consider Your Branding
Overall, your headshots should align with your company’s style and marketing. Take the time to decide:
- What type of headshot do you need? A formal look might suit a corporate environment, while an informal style could better reflect a creative industry or a more casual business environment. Think about how the images will be used and how you want your staff to appear to prospective clients.
- Where should the shoot take place? Office-based shots can convey a relaxed, authentic feel, while backdrop-based photography offers a clean, polished look. Consider what best represents your brand. For consistency, think about how future staff photos will match the current style across different seasons.
- What backdrop colour works best? Neutral tones like white, grey, or black are timeless and professional. Alternatively, choose colours that align with your brand’s palette. Using both colour and black-and-white options can also work well.
2. Gather Reference Images
Often, you’ll see a style you like and want to replicate. This is helpful for you and your photographer. To help ensure your final headshots meet expectations, you can:
- Browse my portfolio in the Corporate Gallery or look for inspiration online.
- Identify styles you like. Reference images help guide the creative direction and decision-making process.
- Plan for brand consistency. For example, if you choose outdoor shots in summer, think about how you’ll match the look in winter when onboarding new staff.

3. Practical Considerations
Once you have a vision — or at least one to discuss with your photographer — give some early thought to logistics:
- Assess the space. Do you have a large enough area in your office or chosen location? Ensure you have permission to use it, and that it won’t cause problems with visitors. Some building management teams require a risk assessment.
- Plan the schedule. Is it feasible to photograph everyone in a single day? For larger teams, spreading the shoot over several days may be more practical. Allow contingencies for absences or unexpected delays.
